In case you've been living under a rock for several years, Mike is the host of the Discovery Channel's emmy-nominated show "Dirty Jobs." Which means he's spent the last several years traveling around the country as an apprentice for the kind of blue collar jobs that make civilized life possible for the rest of us, but often go under the radar. He is also the unmistakable voice behind the hit TV show "The Deadliest Catch," and you've probably seen him hawking Caterpillar products and Ford automobiles as well.
But on today's podcast, Mike talks to Wendy and Aaron about something vital to this country's sustainability.
Motivated by his grandfather's work ethic, Mike has set out to address the nation's aversion to hard work, the steady decline in the trades and the skilled labor shortage that is crippling this country. His website, www.mikeroweWORKS.com, has partnered with other organizations to promote skilled labor in an attempt to fix what he calls "America's dysfunctional relationship with work."
Mike even testified in front of Congress earlier this year, and boldly called for a national public relations campaign dedicated to promoting blue collar jobs as more than just a last-ditch alternative to college. Click below to watch Mike testify.
